Quality Standard 3
Teachers plan and deliver effective instruction and create an environment that facilitates learning for their students.
Element A Teachers demonstrate knowledge about the ways in which learning takes place, including the levels of intellectual, physical, social and emotional development of their students.
Reasoning Statement: My reflection on the Making Thinking Visible presentations includes recently observed teaching strategies. My reflection shows that I use my knowledge of teaching strategies while also considering the intellectual, physical, social and emotional development of my students. For example in my reflection I note how several teaching strategies can be used in music education. Furthermore, in my reflection, I also note ways of making music applicable to students' lives.

Element B Teachers use formal and informal methods to assess student learning, provide feedback, and use results to inform planning and instruction.
Reasoning Statement:The 2 examples below are examples of methods I will use, or have used in the past to assess student learning, provide feedback and use results to inform planning and instruction. The traditional assessment is a short assessment I wrote to formally assess student learning. The student work analysis protocol assignment is an example in which I used informal assessment to assess student learning. Furthermore, I used the data from the Student Work Analysis Protocol Assignment to inform my next objective. Because the students did not meet objective expectations to the percentage I was looking for, I retaught the lesson. The second time I retaught the lesson, the students were able to meet my success criteria.

Element C Teachers integrate and utilize appropriate available technology to engage students in authentic learning experiences.
Reasoning Statement: The activity I created using PlayPosit allows students to explore and learn about acoustic spaces. Without the use of technology students would not be able to hear these unique acoustic spaces.

Element D Teachers establish and communicate high expectations and use processes, such as questioning, to support the development of critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Reasoning Statement: I used my Lesson plan #1 which demonstrates that I want students to think beyond surface level of poetry put to music. I am challenging them to relate the deeper meaning of the poetry to their own lives and engaging students in social emotional learning.

Element F Teachers model and promote effective communication.
Reasoning Statement: This document demonstrates 1 way I modeled and promoted effective communication. This voice lesson journal is an ongoing document that I created for my voiced student to communicate with me and visa versa. This has several purposes. First, I wanted my voice student to review the vocal techniques covered in her lessons. Second, I wanted my student to process how the vocal techniques were useful. Third, I wanted to use this as a way for my student to give me feedback, but also for me to give my student feedback. I used the information to assess what my student understood and to influence future lessons.
