Quality Standard 2
Teachers establish a safe, inclusive and respectful learning environment for a diverse population of students.
Element A Teachers foster a predictable learning environment characterized by acceptable student behavior and efficient use of time in which each student has a positive, nurturing relationship with caring adults and peers.
Reasoning Statement: In EDUC 350 I assisted teachers in their classrooms. I maintained high expectations for behavior while encouraging students to stay on task and use their time efficiently. Additionally, I continued to build positive relationships with students by assisting students with their work and asking students about their interests. This artifact is from my TQS field notes and shows an example of how I encouraged one student to stay on task.
I also included a second artifact which is a discussion response from EDUC350 about rules and routines. In the discussion post, I stated my previous beliefs about rules, my current beliefs, and how I plan to establish thes in my classroom.
Artifact 1: Example from TQS field Notes stating that I assisted a student that was off task daily, distracting to peers, and completing assignments 20% of the time. I targeted the students specific behavior, and encouraged the student to work an assignment while staying near the student to help with questions. Eventually, the student was more engaged, and stayed on task over 60% of the time.

Element B Teachers demonstrate an awareness of, a commitment to, and a respect for multiple aspects of diversity, while working toward common goals as a community of learners.
Reasoning Statement: In the case study I wrote for EDUC350 I compared two students. For the case study I interviewed a choir student and a student in integrated services. The case study shows my commitment to learning about students, building relationships, and respecting students unique attributes.

Element C Teachers engage students as individuals, including those with diverse needs and interests, across a range of ability levels by adapting their teaching for the benefit of all students.
Reasoning Statement: In this project I did for EDUC331, I considered diverse learning needs of students and adapted the lesson in multiple ways. Artifact 1 shows considerations for students with IEPs or 504's (unspecified). In the lesson I created choice by having students choose from graphic organizers. Artifact 2 shows the graphic organizer options.
Additionally, I included my response to the EDUC350 discussion post Integrated Services. In the discussion post I talk specifically about accommodations that I would include in my own classroom.

Element D Teachers work collaboratively with the families and/or significant adults for the benefit of students.
Reasoning Statement: I included one example from when I was doing volunteer work in the music classroom at Werner Elementary. This example includes how I collaborated with the paraprofessional and the music teacher to learn ways for successfully supporting a student.
In EDUC331 I friended other educators and education based sites on twitter. Additionally, I asked questions and engaged in resources to support all students with the use of technology.
Artifact 1: Volunteer Experience Example- One example of this is when I was volunteering at Werner Elementary. I tried, but was unsuccessful in redirecting a student that was making poor behavioral choices, and making peers feel unsafe. I chose to stay after and debrief with the teacher and paraprofessional for the student. I learned that the student did better when pointing out that the student's peers were behaving well, treating and playing other instruments correctly.
