Quality Standard 4
Teachers demonstrate professionalism through ethical conduct, reflection, and leadership.
Element A Teachers demonstrate high standards for professional conduct.
Reasoning Statement: I believe my role as a teacher candidate was to demonstrate professional conduct and collegiality. I believe by displaying professional conduct it establishes trust and connection in the classroom as well as outside of the classroom. The following artifacts are two photos of how my mentor teachers rated my professional conduct in each placement. I believe both artifacts demonstrate my professional intent, and my ability to follow through with professional intent.
Artifact 1: Evaluation Photo of Professional Conduct
Artifact 2: Evaluation Photo of Professional Conduct
Element B Teachers link professional growth to their professional goals.
Reasoning Statement: My role as a teacher candidate was to define goals based on my dispositions and improve them during my time spent student teaching. I included three artifacts. The first artifact is my professional dispositions self-evaluation and goals that I came up with at the beginning of the semester. The second artifact is a document that shows my participation in a professional development day. I believe both artifacts demonstrate that I want grow professionally and that I am capable of determining goals based on self-evaluation and reflection. The third artifact is my dispositions reflection stating on how I will use the disposition evaluation in the future to define goals for myself.

Element C Teachers respond to a complex, dynamic environment.
Reasoning Statement: The artifact below is a document that shows my ability to respond to a complex and dynamic environment. One of the educators at Thompson Valley High School asked me if I would supervise her 7th period students in a credit recovery class. We have at least 3 documented dates showing that I monitored students in the class. These were students that I was unfamiliar with and this was a course that I was unfamiliar with. However, I was willing to step in, learn and follow course procedures with the students, and monitor the students learning. I believe that my role as a teacher candidate is to support colleagues and demonstrate flexibility. This shows my willingness to be flexible and support other educators as needed within the school.

Element D Teachers demonstrate leadership in the school, the community, and the teaching profession.
Reasoning Statement: For this element I included four artifacts. The first is a picture which demonstrates my contribution to the school's musical in which I helped with vocals. I helped large ensembles, small ensembles, and soloists for the Thompson Valley High Schools Production of Mama Mia. The second photo demonstrates one way I took part in the community at Strasburg Elementary. The school put on a talent show and I volunteered my time to judge the talent show. The 3rd and 4th artifacts demonstrate my leadership in kindergarten rhyme intervention. Finally, Since I am trained in the Barton curriculum, specifically for students with dyslexia, I used some of my training in multi-sensory approaches (aural, visual and kinesthetic) to help students understand the basics of rhyming. I felt that my role as a teacher candidate was to participate in school functions as well as intervention. I believe this helps establish connection with both students and colleagues.

Quality Standard 4 Reflection
For this standard I improved and demonstrated professionalism in several areas during my semester student teaching. For example, I volunteered my time helping with vocals for the high school performance of Mama Mia, and I volunteered to be a talent show judge. I also used skills that I learned from tutoring students with dyslexia and applied them to rhyming intervention for kindergarteners. I believe the largest area of growth for me has been my willingness to learn and improve based on feedback given to me by my mentor teachers.
I believe that my professionalism, ethical conduct, reflection, and leadership has impacted my students in several ways. First, being professional and collegiate allowed students to trust and find safety in the classroom. This was due to my consistency in professional behavior. Additionally, when students saw me working together with other colleagues they saw that other colleagues trusted me. Therefore, my students became more trusting of me to provide a safe classroom environment, and more trusting of my teaching processes. Because of this my students had decreased anxiety about the activities they were doing to meet objectives. Second, through practicing self-reflection, my students understood that I cared about them. Additionally by practicing self-reflection, I was able to connect with more students because they understood that I also make mistakes and am not perfect. My students saw that I did not connect my mistakes to my self image, and I maintained confidence as an educator. Because my students understood that I cared about teaching, they were more invested in learning processes. One example of this is when I received one comment from one of my mentor teachers that said, “Your students know that you care about them and care about teaching because of the joy you bring into the classroom.” Third, I believe that volunteering my time in different areas of the school let my students know that I cared about their other interests outside of music. Last, I believe that volunteering to assist with learning interventions has directly impacted my students' learning. I believe my students in learning intervention groups understood that I was willing to help improve their skills in other subject areas, and that I cared about their learning in subjects outside of music.
One area I want to improve in is communication. I would like to practice early communication with parents and colleagues. Additionally, if projects I am working on get delayed, I would like to have plans for sending regular updates. Furthermore, I would like to develop better forecasting skills so that I better estimate timeliness on projects.
