Quality Standard 2
Teachers establish a safe, inclusive and respectful learning environment for a diverse population of students.
Element A Teachers foster a predictable learning environment characterized by acceptable student behavior and efficient use of time in which each student has a positive, nurturing relationship with caring adults and peers.
Reasoning Statement: I included two artifacts. The first includes two pictures in which I state the objective in a powerpoint and put a note to think about the objective (blend). I also included a specific schedule for warm ups as well as a schedule for going over the pieces. The second is a short clip in which I ask the students to read the objectives that I have written on the board. Both artifacts demonstrate my ability to foster a predictable learning environment. My role as an educator was to create and communicate clear objectives. I believed that by creating and communicating clear objectives this helped my students anticipate my intention and expectations. Additionally, knowing my expectations helped my students focus and complete objectives.

Element B Teachers demonstrate an awareness of, a commitment to, and a respect for multiple aspects of diversity, while working toward common goals as a community of learners.
Reasoning Statement: The artifact below is a journal reflection. I presented the piece Nigra Sum to one of the choirs at Thompson Valley High School. The students felt that this piece did not represent them. As a teacher candidate, I felt that my role was to honor their request. This demonstrates my awareness of and commitment to multiple aspects of diversity while working towards common goals for communities of learners.

Element C Teachers engage students as individuals, including those with diverse needs and interests, across a range of ability levels by adapting their teaching for the benefit of all students.
Reasoning Statement: My mentor teacher, Mrs. Authier, at Strasburg Elementary, has a column in her lesson plans for visual, aural and kinesthetic in her lesson plans. I have adopted this because as a teacher candidate, it is my role to meet diverse learning needs of students. This is a 4th grade lesson plan that I created. I included aural, visual, and kinesthetic ways to experience the new rhythm Tam-ti. I also included an aural and kinesthetic way to prepare the new solfège pitch Fa. Because of the visual, aural, and kinesthetic elements,I engaged students with diverse learning needs, interests, and a range of abilities.
Artifact 1: Lesson Plan
Element D Teachers work collaboratively with the families and/or significant adults for the benefit of students.
Reasoning Statement: This artifact is an email showing a letter to parents that I contributed in the March 2022 newsletter for families at Strasburg Elementary. As a teacher candidate my role was to familiarize colleagues, families and students with my background, and to initiate connection. This demonstrates my ability to work with families and significant adults for the benefit of students.

Quality Standard 2 Reflection
For Quality Standard 2 I believe that my classroom management skills improved significantly. I was able to set up expectations and follow through with them. One example of this is my teaching video, artifact 2 element A, in which I asked students to read the objectives together. I have also improved in creating lesson plans that include activities for multiple learning styles as demonstrated in artifact 1 element C. When my students experienced a concept visually, aurally and kinesthetically it deepened understanding of concepts.
There are several areas of this quality standard I would like to see myself improve. First, although I am passionate about culturally responsive pedagogy, I have found this challenging to implement in the classroom. I would like to understand what my students know about their own culture and other cultures. Additionally, I would like to know more about my culturally diverse students, how their cultures impact their learning, and how I can support their learning. Furthermore, I would like to put more time and effort into finding ways for my students with non-normative learning needs to participate in music on a deeper level.
